The Wurundjeri (Woiwurrung) people have lived, worked and looked after the land in the area now known as Fitzroy since the beginning of time. Despite colonisation, Aboriginal people and culture survived and Fitzroy became an important and welcoming destination for Aboriginal people from many tribes.
